On January 23, 2020, ZAL GmbH celebrated the grand opening of AI Aviation Lab, the new technology platform by ZAL for artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning in the aviation industry. To mark the day, TechCenter opened its doors to an exclusive group of guests. From ZAL stakeholders to universities and start-ups to representatives from the city, authorities, and government – everyone attended.

Roland Gerhards, CEO of ZAL GmbH, welcomed the guests together with AI expert Leonid Lichtenstein, coordinator of AI Aviation Lab. Three talks – from professor Dr. Stefan Wermter from the University of Hamburg, Yasar Goedecke and Andreas Dannemann from Lufthansa Technik, and Thorben Wiese from 3D.aero – introduced the world of artificial intelligence.

Afterwards, the attendees visited four captivating AI demonstrations in groups. The highlight was the AI lab itself, which is now open to all interested individuals to use.

At the delicious dinner, the guests took stock of the day’s impressions and talked about their ideas and projects in a relaxed atmosphere. A networking corner as well as a selection of exhibition pieces from Elektronik Kunst rounded out the celebrations.
