Le Bourget, June 21st, 2023: ZAL GmbH and H3 Dynamics, a Singaporean technology scale-up, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on projects developing hydrogen use in aviation and advanced air mobility. The signing took place at the Hamburg Pavillon during the Paris Air Show by ZAL’s CEO Roland Gerhards and Taras Wankewycz, founder and CEO of H3 Dynamics.
Together, ZAL and H3 Dynamics will explore the acceleration of hydrogen in aviation, including unmanned aviation, fueling of commercial aircraft, and ground operations. An area of particular interest will be ramping up the production of H3 Dynamics‘ ultra-light fuel cell systems for different types of extended range hydrogen-electric UAS.
With the support of Hamburg Invest’s Scaleup Landing Pad program, H3 Dynamics plans to open a new location at ZAL shortly, using ZAL’s expanding office and laboratory space. A move that further strengthens H3 Dynamics’ presence in Germany’s hydrogen ecosystem. Hamburg will be the fourth location for the growing technology company, joining the ranks of Singapore, Toulouse, and Austin (Texas). The collaboration between ZAL and H3 Dynamics began in the Sustainable Aero Lab, a leading accelerator program for sustainable aviation startups founded at ZAL in 2020, where both CEOs serve as startup mentors.
„Today’s signing represents an exciting milestone for ZAL, H3 Dynamics, and the hydrogen aviation ecosystem. We are uniting a world-leading for H2 infrastructure location with a world-leading company for H2 in aviation. We are particularly thrilled by H3 Dynamics‘ plans to establish a presence at ZAL TechCenter, showcasing the international appeal of our hydrogen infrastructure. The future of hydrogen at ZAL is bright, and so is the future of H3 Dynamics“, says Roland Gerhards, CEO of ZAL Center of Applied Aeronautical Research.
„H3 Dynamics’ partnership with ZAL will accelerate our European R&D and commercialization plans, some of which include close collaboration with Germany’s manned and unmanned aviation eco-system. With a growing number of touchpoints in the Hamburg eco-system, it was quickly very clear that we would somehow come together to make it happen.” said Taras Wankewycz Founder and CEO of H3 Dynamics.
The signing of the MoU between ZAL and H3 Dynamics in Le Bourget is a significant step in ZAL’s strategy to increase its footprint in sustainable aviation and technology innovation.
Previously this year ZAL announced a collaboration with UAV leader Wingcopter to develop a hydrogen-powered drone for extended operation durations for medical logistics in remote areas. And in May 2023, Singaporean scaleup SungreenH2, in partnership with Hamburg Invest, utilized ZAL‘s facilities to further develop and showcase their ultra-efficient electrolyzer.
About H3 Dynamics
H3 Dynamics aims to decarbonize aviation through hydrogen-electric solutions. Since 2006, the company pioneered ultra-light hydrogen fuel cells for experimental unmanned aircraft, setting early records for electric-powered flights. Expanding in 2015, H3 Dynamics established a strong presence in Singapore with industrial AI solutions and drone automation. Meanwhile hydrogen solutions for unmanned systems continued to evolve out of its US-based set up in Austin, Texas. The company began solution scale-up and formed a hydrogen aviation team in Toulouse in 2019, with ongoing activities to set up also in Hamburg, Germany. Today, H3 Dynamics collaborates closely with unmanned and manned aviation sector OEMs, enabling a hydrogen transition across various operational use cases. Learn more: www.h3dynamics.com
