On July 16, 2025, the first interactive UAV development workshop took place at the ZAL TechCenter, organized by ZAL and Windrove.
Objective: To lay the foundation for a strong UAV developer community in Hamburg, identify needs, and develop concrete ideas for a regular exchange format.
Around 20 participants from industry, research, government authorities, universities, startups, and SMEs – including Airbus, Lufthansa Technik, Diehl, DLR, Fraunhofer, and HAW – contributed their expertise. In small groups, participants worked at various stations within ZAL to gather requirements for existing infrastructures. In addition, the groups developed initial proposals for future topics, formats, and presentations at community meetings.
The workshop made it clear: there is a strong need for exchange and joint development. The collected ideas will serve as a basis for further exchange formats among UAV developers in the region.
Following the workshop, participants used the shared lunch for networking and to deepen the dialogue.
Outlook:
The next workshop will take place in September 2025. Its focus will be on cataloging UAV infrastructure in and around Hamburg – from flight areas and wind tunnels to drone cages.
A big thank you goes to all participants for the open dialogue, inspiring input, and constructive collaboration.
